Landholdings of households in Ukraine
State Committee of Ukraine on Statistics published data on households which have in their use land plots for personal peasant farming (so-called OSG plots).
As of January 1, 2010 there were 4612.1 thousand households (as of 01/01/2009 – 4666.0 thousand). They used 6560.5 thousand ha of land (as of 01/01/2009 – 6585.2 thousand ha), including:
- for personal peasant farming – 2879.1 thousand ha (as of 01/01/2009 – 2916.9);
- for agricultural commodity production – 2740.5 thousand ha (as of 01/01/2009 – 2724.0);
- for housing construction – 871.6 thousand ha (as of 01/01/2009 – 872.1).
According to our calculation, the average household landholding is 1.422 ha. The biggest average landholdings are found in Kherson Oblast where 92.8 thousand families use 377.4 thousand ha (4.07 ha per household). The smallest average landholdings are found in Kyiv Oblast where 264.6 thousand households use 206.8 thousand ha (0.78 ha per household).
